With haute couture style and elegance, 2007/08 winter fashion find us donning a vintage mood, throw-backs to the reassuring, vital 1960’s and 1930’s. And yet these garments are given a modern freshness with the shape of the lines and the mix-and-match of fabrics and finishes as never seen before. We will find raw edged cuts that give a fake aura of poverty as well as precious appliqués including elegant strass, beads and sequins or the more sporty studs which come in all shapes.
From morning to evening, elegance is the key word. And this even holds for the sports wardrobe, more consonant with everyday life, the Steve McQueen motorcycle jackets are revisited in a with highly suggestive manner, we will find the stylized, neopurist shapes of the 1960’s. There will be cavalry pants, always the mark of the aristocracy, a style that has increasingly taken hold, launched with renewed, painstaking experimentation and so many details.
This highly practical sport-couture image is flanked by markedly romantic fashions: vintage dresses with gathered sleeves and soft draping or pleats and adorned with ribbons, ruches and Chantilly lace. There is the evanescent transparency of chiffon, the voluminous bubbles which take off from the skirts and are reflected in the sleeves and collars.
This extremely feminine romanticism can even slip into the dandy style with blouses of XVIII century inspiration to go with ultra-sporty pants or men’s style smoking jackets and vests to be worn with nothing but a tie.
The predominant colors are the extremes of the trend: dark black and snow white, alternated with touches of bright colors such as red, fuxia, orange, bottle green, yellow, cobalt-blue, violet and dazzling gold.
